SUMR Program & GEAR UP

The Summer Undergraduate Mentored Research (SUMR) program, a twelve-week summer internship introduces promising undergraduates to health services research. The program aims at creating and promoting equal opportunities for students to conduct research in such fields as health economics, health care management, health policy, population health, and clinical epidemiology.

For students interested in a longer-term engagement with the demography and economics of aging and health care, there is the Get Experience in Aging Research Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP).

The program is a 15-month sustained fellowship program for undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in a career involving aging research.

Leerink Partners offers a ten-week Summer Analyst internship program to accomplished students in their penultimate year of undergraduate studies.

CMS Student Intern

CMS is seeking a part-time, volunteer student intern to help drive a special project related to ensuring continued access to quality care for people with Medicare, Medicaid & CHIP, and Marketplace coverage in the event of emergencies, such as cybersecurity incidents and natural disasters. Expected responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing statute, regulation and guidance across different CMS programs

  • Mapping and redesigning complex processes

  • Synthesizing information from research and expert consultation into policy and operational recommendations 

  • Preparing memos and briefings 

  • Strengthening coordination within and outside of the agency

This internship will provide an opportunity to work closely with experts across different CMS programs and take initiative on a high-impact project. Preference will be given to students who can dedicate at least 8-12 hours per week and have some familiarity with CMS programs; the work schedule is flexible. This position is remote.
